Blog post # 7 Campus Event

May 4, 2010

The campus event that I was able to go was something that I haven’t been to in a long time and that’s a baseball game. Yep, that’s right. I got to watch Georgia Southern play Samford on Sunday, April 18th, at 1:30 P.M. It was in the middle of the day and the weather was nice outside. It was warm, but not too hot. There was a good amount of people there. Die hard Eagles fans filled the stands with cheering spirit and a bunch of shouting and yelling. This game was a great game. At first, I thought it was going to be a blowout because by the end of the fourth inning, it was like 10-0, the Eagles were winning. It wasn’t long after that Samford finally scored and not too long after that, the Eagles scored their last couple of runs. After that, Samford just kept scoring. By the end of the 8th inning it was 12-7. For one minute I thought that Samford was gonna come back and win. Especially in the 9th inning when the bulldogs scored two more runs making it 12-9. Then the bases were loaded and all it would’ve taken is a homerun or even a triple to go into extra innings, but that didn’t happen. As a matter of fact, I believe a ball was hit into the outfield and was caught to make that fly out the third out. This was a great game at J.I. Clements stadium and the Eagles fans went home happy.

Blog # 6 Digital Dirt

May 4, 2010

If I knew someone who was posting inappropriate information online, I’d probably tell them that it’s not such a great idea. It could effect them and their peers or community more than they know. One of the reasons I would tell them not to post it or to delete the thread that they’ve already put up is because it may cause others that read the post to not only judge that person, but also judge that school or community that they represent. For example, if I posted something inappropriate on “Facebook” and the viewers happen to notice that I’m a full-time student at Georgia Southern University, then the viewer now has a stereotype of the students that attend Georgia Southern University. Another reason is that it can jeopardize a career opportunity down the line. It would suck if someone spent a lot of time and effort into building a nice resume” with so many years of school also put into it to have the opportunity ruined by a comment or a post. Not only did the job not go through, but there was a nice dose of embarassment too. Posting the wrong info or inappropriate info can lead to being a total nightmare. It can effect somebody so much, a long with others, and they not even realize it at the time that it’s being posted. There are some great posts about this sort of thing. They’re both at kevinmd.com. One is about posting inappropriate information and the other is about students getting expelled for that. I would definitely check these out.

Podcast Blog on “Skeetopia”

April 13, 2010

I did my podcast review on a talk radio show called “Skeetopia.” The guy’s name is Skeet and he talks about different stories going on around the world. This edition was actually called “What the hell is going on in the world.” He basically talked about how parents need to definitely be aware of their kids because kids are really using inhalents as drugs. Inhalents have always been there, but now kids are getting out of control with it. He also talked about how “Lady Gaga” and “Madonna” are somewhat alike. Only thing that was different was that Madonna has been in it for 25 years and she’s still doing it. He thinks Lady Gaga has already had her fame and is over and done with. He called it 15 minutes of fame. He talked a little about “Tiger Woods” and what the press has been saying about him. Saying that he wont be left alone. He was making fun of “Jennifer Love Hewitt” because of the break-up between her and her boyfriend. She told the press that he was her soulmate and apparently ther was some glitter on her private area also that really amused him. He really belittled everyone he talked about and was really giving no message at all. He even said it was all about him. He must enjoy hearing himself. There was also some music played over the hour. I think there was 3 or 4 songs played during the breaks. It was very interesting to hear this guy give his outlook on everyone else, but he’s not my favorite talk show radio host to listen to.

One Week of Twitter

March 5, 2010

I have definitely learned some things this week about Twitter. It has changed my whole perspective on the way it flows and who qualifies to access Twitter. I thought that because I wasn’t famous that I was not supposed to be on Twitter. The truth is that anyone can get on  and enjoy no matter who you are. It’s not all about you and who’s following you because you are so important. It’s more about who I can follow and maybe catch a video link from you tube that is funny or I missed the news, but someone posted a link on there that catches me up. There are all sorts of ways to update from using Twitter. One is you can do it straight from your home p c which can be a pain sometimes because what if your not home or something is up with your computer, like mine always is. It was just hard for me to get on at home every chance I got because honestly, I could be doing other things that needed to get done. So, there happens to be another option and it in itself has a few different ways also. You can first try the text messaging on your phone. You have to get your phone verified first by sending a text message to 40404 and after it’s verified, you can send updates from there on out to that number. Aside from using text on your phone, if you have mobile browser, you can just update from there. My favorite way to update is to download one of the Twitter apps for your phone, if they are available. I downloaded “MoTweets” and it is for any phone that has Windows Mobile. So, Twitter can actually be less of a time consumer with these few benefits.

Review of Blogs

February 20, 2010

I really enjoyed “How to prepare for the next semester” by Drapeto. It showed me how to navigate all over the Georgia Southern website. It also showed me how to look through the course schedule. I think that anyone who is a new student at Georgia Southern should definitely watch this video. It was able to let me understand what I was supposed to expect from my first advisement appointment and that I also need to make sure to talk with my adviser about the classes I plan on taking because they might not line up with my preferred major. Then I’ll have a mess because some of the classes that I’ve taken wont really count for much, possibly an elective.  Now, on the other hand of entertainment. “Lil Wayne” had an oral surgery that was definitely not an ordinary doctor visit. He had 8 root canals that took 8 hours of non stop drilling. He also had several implants worked on and the only real teeth he had left repaired. This artist was supposed to get sentenced up to a year in prison earlier in the month, but the judge postponed the sentencing until after he could get his “grill” ready for jail. Wayne’s tour bus was stopped after a show in 2008 and a 40 mm was found in his possession. There was also a border check taht he was stopped at in 2007 and had several drug possessions including three and a half ounces of marijuana, about an ounce of cocaine, and a little over an ounce of MD-MA, which is the main chemical in ecstasy.

About me

January 21, 2010

My name is Donny McAtee. I’m a 27 year-old freshman student at Georgia Southern University. I’m studying for a Bachelor of Science in Biology. I also signed up for the pre-med program. I would love to be a dermatologist because I want to help people with all kinds of skin disease and skin cancer. The medical field seems like a great field to be in, but I have some road blocks to get through first. I wasn’t that comfortable at first because I haven’t been in school in almost 10 years and I was almost the oldest person in my classes, but as the weeks have passed, I’ve been feeling a part of. I’m a pretty outgoing person and I like communicating with and getting to know all people. My hobbies include going to the beach on a warm, summer day or watching a movie on a Friday night. I also enjoy downloading and listening to all kinds of music whether it’s the hottest stuff from my favorite rapper “Lil Wayne,” or whether it’s my favorite all-time classic bands like “CCR, Pink Floyd, or Led Zepplin.” I really like making my own ring tones and sending them to my friends and family. My family and friends are very important to me because I could be great at whatever I do, but if I don’t have anyone to share it with, then it really doesn’t matter. I think some people(including me sometimes) can take life and everyone in it for granted. The people that are in my life today have no idea how much they mean to me and how truly grateful I am to be a part of each others lives.
